Marco Perale és Ramón y Cajal a la Secció de Grec del Departament de Filologia Clàssica, Romànica i Semítica de la Universitat de Barcelona. La seva recerca se centra en la poesia grega des de l'època arcaica fins a l'època bizantina primerenca. Com a papiròleg, edita i tradueix literatura grega papiràcia, col·laborant amb diverses col·leccions de papirs. El seu principal projecte de recerca és un corpus de quatre volums de poemes hexamètrics anònims sobre papir. També s'interessa per la literatura hel·lenística i imperial. Actualment està treballant en una nova edició dels fragments i epigrames del poeta-filòleg de finals del segle IV Símias de Rodes, i finalitzant un manual de poesia hel·lenística.
